Contact Lens Fitting

Contact lens technology has advanced significantly over the past several years with new materials which are very breathable and provide all day comfort. Contact lenses are a great alternative for clear vision while being spectacle free. Book in an appointment at Northbridge Optical to speak to an optometrist about your options.

I already wear glasses, can I use the same prescription for my contact lens?

The assessment for contact lenses and spectacles are not the same. As contact lenses are sitting closer to the eye, the contact lens prescription may need to be adjusted for the difference in distance. This is why the prescription of the contact lenses and spectacles are not the same.

What to expect in a contact lens consultation?

During the contact lens assessment, the optometrist will check the health of your eyes to ensure that your eyes are suitable for contact lens wear. The optometrist will check your contact lens prescription and the curvature to your eyes to find a suitable lens for your optical needs.

At Northbridge Optical, we understand that everyone’s optical needs are a bit different. This is why we take the time to understand what your needs are and personalise our approach to you. We offer a range of contact lenses including dailies, fortnightly and monthly lenses. When wearing contact lenses, it is important that we use a material that allows sufficient oxygen supply to the eye to help keep the eyes healthy. Your optometrist will go through the different options and you will be prescribed trial lenses.

If it is your first time wearing contact lenses, your optometrist will teach you how to safely insert and remove the lenses from the eye. You will also be taught how to properly care for the lenses to reduce any risk of infections.

A follow-up appointment will be arranged to see how you are going with your new contact lenses.

Am I suitable for Contact Lenses?

Most people are suitable for contact lens wear. Whether you are interested in contact lens wear for occasional wear or every day wear, at Northbridge Optical, your optometrist will help you find the best option.

The optometrist will check your eye health to ensure your eyes are compatible with contact lens wear.

I have astigmatism, can I wear contact lenses?

Yes! It is quite common that people who have astigmatism are under the misconception that they are  unable to wear contact lenses. Technology has gone a long way and we now have an extensive range of contact lens options available for those who have astigmatism.

I usually wear multifocals, can i still wear contact lens? And how do they work?

Yes. At Northbridge Optical, we offer a range of multifocal contact lens options. If you currently wear multifocal glasses but would like to be spectacle-free from time to time, you will be excited to hear that we offer multifocal contact lens fitting.

With extensive research, multifocal contact lenses are able to provide clear vision at a wide range of distances by considering how our pupils dilate and constrict at different distances.

My eyes always feel dry with contact lenses, what should I do?

At Northbridge Optical, we understand that no two sets of eyes are the same. We offer a range of different lens options to ensure your eyes stay hydrated during contact lens wear. If you suffer from dry eyes, we may need to consider different lens materials or even adding eye drops to your contact lenses regime.

I currently wear contact lenses but I’m not happy with them. What can I do?

Not all contact lenses are made the same. If you are currently a contact lens wearer but find that your vision is not clear or your eyes feel dry, red and sore towards the end of the day, you may not be in the right contact lenses.

If you are experiencing symptoms of dry, red eyes you should book in to see the optometrist as some changes may need to be made to the contact lenses. It is important to have your eyes checked regularly to maintain good eye health.
